Workitywork

In my efforts to surf the web and learn more about Web 2.0 and what all encompasses it I am discovering there are buckets full of applications and programs that really allow people to intereact, learn from one another and even give kudos to someone deserving recognition!  I work for a small private company that has experienced the highs and lows of a fast-growing and successful businsess.  I've been with my company for about 8 years so I've been around quite some time to witness positive growth and negative setbacks.  In fast-paced environments (whether work or an educational setting) I think individuals are so caught up with tasks, meetings, calendars, and following up with every account tied to them (i.e. fbook, twitter, etc...) that it's easy for us to forget to show thanks and appreciation to those we're surrounded by daily.  Everyone can use a little positive encouragement and/or recognition!  Workitywork isa  site designed for coworkers to engage one another and boost morale.

This site can be utilized to say congrats on an employees accomplishment or celebrate with your team on meeting quarterly sales goals.  The site also allows users to track the work "vibe" and morale within an organization over time.  Polls can be created so individuals inputs and thoughts can be captured and shared with their peers.  With a 15-day free trial anyone can test the site out.

In a struggling economy who doesn't need this clever and creative concept?

  1. Hey Ashley,

I like the Workity Work concept. My last job, at FSU, could have used something like this. We only got feedback once a year. After being part of the IS program at FSU, and taking the Human Resource Development course (a must in my opinion), the topics covered reiterated what I had always felt, that employees need ongoing coaching, praises and critiques. The management "style" (if you could call it that) was completly horrible. Of course, I didn't need any program or web application to tell me what the mood of the workers was, aghhhhh!

The idea of instant recognition/feedback I think is great. I hope Workity Work...works for you and all your future professional endeavors. Thanks for the tip.

  2. Interesting! This is a new one for me -- I'm going to bookmark it so I can recommend it to others. I wonder what it would be like if we used it in our program to celebrate each other's accomplishments (publications, students defending, etc.)

  3. A thought upon checking it out some more: at $4 per user per month, the costs of this system may add up quickly. I fear that the employers who would be willing to pay would be the ones who were already sensitive to the need for recognition, kudos, etc.

We need an open source version! :)

  4. Like Vanessa I to agree that the $4/month user fee is a bit of a turn off it does promote a great concept that would work well in either types of environments (education rich or business rich!). I do think employers would be more willing to pay the fee if they found it to be a great tool for improving morale and peer interaction from within. Alyn, my company only does an annual feedback review process as well and WorkityWork would be an ideal tool that can be interactive throughout the progress and success of each business year.
